Tsunami Japanese Restaurant

A large room divided into booths and individual tables is the rather unassuming first impression of Tsunami in Clapham, but it would be a mistake not to pursue things further. The mixture of straight Japanese and pan Asian food is terrific.

Our two children astounded us by wolfing down as much Sushi (from £2.80) as they could get their hands on. For 3 and 10 year olds they out performed us by eating a bento box, a kind of Japanese pack lunch consisting of Chicken Teriyaki, Sushi, Spiced Vegetables and Steamed Rice (£13). Other highlights included Lamb Cutlets with Korean Kimchi Chilli, which I could have eaten again and again, it was that good (£8.50). Sizzling Beef Teriyaki was vigorously consumed by all (£16.50). A Toban (£9.70), a Japanese pot dish of chicken in broth was clean and succulent – almost life affirming! And the desserts – Sesame or Green Tea Ice Cream anybody? Yes please! These unusual flavours worked well with Chocolate Fondant and a fantastic sculptural display of Pineapple in Syrup.

The food here is not only beautiful to look at but also exquisite to the palate. Food arrives in stages, which suited us well as there was always a surprise around the corner. With very friendly staff this a great family experience.
