About

Food is my passion, whether it’s sampling its delights, or capturing its splendour through photography. As a Food and Travel Writer and Photographer, I cover all things foodie near and far – from restaurant reviews to product launches.

With my intimate knowledge of the restaurant scene, and the personal relationships I’ve developed, I am able to tread the streets of London and beyond – sampling gastronomic offerings and reporting back. I love the challenge of transporting people with me on my culinary journeys and encouraging them to go out and explore the restaurants in my reviews.

Neil has been thinking about food and drink since birth, but has been writing about it for twelve years.

My background includes a broadcasting career, working for Channel Four, BBC World Service, ITV and Sky. Having trained at the London Institute of Printing and Distributive Trades in Professional Photography I’ve worked for various publications, including BBC Food Magazine, B & W Photography Magazine, Darling Magazine and Our Man on the Ground, Timeless Travels and The Buyer.  I recently shot the ad campaign for The Broadstairs Food Festival which appeared all over Network South east.

Consistent with my passion for food is that fact that I love to photograph it. Currently I shoot all the photographs for my food reviews in Families Magazine. Powerful food photography will make the viewer salivate.

I also love to photograph people and human behaviour, as well as street photography, capturing unusual and unique moments. Take a look at a selection of my photography work over here.

I delight in conveying my passion to others, and aim to get my readers as excited about food as I am. I relish trying the latest cookbook, or cookery projects and exploring emerging trends.

I’m always eager to experiment with different techniques at home, such as smoking cheeses and butter in my garden smoker, making exotic jams, preserves and mustards, or baking hearty bread. I love reinventing classic recipes and trying new techniques on old favourites.

As a keen food researcher I love to peruse books for inspiration, everything from chutneys to unusual ingredients or spices for my latest dish. I’m passionate about all things associated with food, and in my culinary discoveries dive into drinks and beverages – whether its craft beers, sumptuous wines, local ciders or the finest whiskey.

One of my greatest gastronomic passions is cheese, both from Britain and Europe, and I am never happier than when about to tackle a fine cheeseboard.  In 2014 I was privileged to be one of the judges at The World Cheese Awards held at Olympia, London.  We had to sample a fantastic selection of over 2600 cheeses from all corners of the globe. I have also been a judge for the Asian Curry Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017 which had the inevitable outcome of tasting a vast quantity of superb food.

The experience of food writing should take the reader on a narrative journey of the eating experience itself. Food is sensual and emotional, and this must come alive for the reader. In my writing and photography my readers are the extra guests at the table, eating and discovering alongside me.

Neil lives in Shortlands, Kent, UK. When not slaving at his desk he can often be heard muttering: We eat with our eyes. He is available for Food, Travel, PR, TV Stills, Documentary and Event Photographic commissions.  Just give me a call for an informal chat +44 (0)7973 803 202
